Track a truck without an app

Create a load, pick the best tracking method the carrier can offer, and watch it on one map until delivery. There is no driver app to download.

From load to delivery

  1. Create the load. Add the pickup, the delivery and the carrier. LapisTrack gives you a link for the driver.
  2. Pick a tracking method. Once ELD connections are live, use the carrier’s ELD if they have one connected. Otherwise forward the driver link to the carrier’s dispatcher.
  3. Watch the map. Every load shows how it is being tracked and how fresh the location is. Loads running late, gone dark or stopped too long are flagged.
  4. Delivery ends it. Tracking stops by itself at delivery, and the server refuses later locations.

The four methods, in the order we suggest

1

Carrier’s ELD (Motive or Samsara)

The carrier’s fleet admin approves LapisTrack once. After that, you pick the truck on a load and its GPS appears on the map automatically until delivery. Only that truck, only while it is on your load.

Motive and Samsara connections: in development, not live yet

Until a carrier is connected, they can share their Motive or Samsara live-location link. It shows as a “Carrier’s live tracking” button on the load. More on ELD tracking.

2

Driver link, no app

You copy the load’s link and send it to the carrier’s dispatcher. The dispatcher sends it to the driver. The driver taps it, sees who will see the location and when it stops, and agrees.

A phone’s browser cannot track in the background, so this page shares location while it is open. That is why dock mode and the ELD matter.

3

Dock mode

At pickup and delivery, drivers usually wait parked. The driver can leave the page open on the charger. It records arrival and waiting time, and a “Leaving now” tap records the departure. That is detention proof the driver can send their own dispatcher too. More on detention proof.

4

Call in or text in a ZIP

For a flip phone with no data, the driver calls our toll-free line when parked and keys in a ZIP code on the keypad. Drivers can also text a ZIP code or “City, ST”.

These locations are approximate, about 10 miles either way, and the map labels them that way.

Starts once our toll-free number is set up

Phone status. Call-in starts once our toll-free number is set up. The text features start after the phone carriers verify that number.

Only when you’re parked. Never while driving.

How fresh is that dot?

Every location on the map carries a label, so a check-in never looks like a live track.

  • Live
  • Check-in, with its age
  • Approximate
  • Gone dark
  • Live is a location read from the truck’s own ELD, once those connections are live.
  • Check-in is a driver’s link, dock mode or call, with how long ago it arrived.
  • Approximate is a ZIP code, about 10 miles either way.
  • Gone dark means nothing has arrived for a while. Time to call the dispatcher.

You can also record what the dispatcher told you on the phone as a check-in on the load.

Shippers

Send a no-login share link for any one load. Or give a shipper a free login that shows only their own loads.

Your own system

LapisTrack can push locations and events to your own system by webhook.

Try it on your own loads for 30 days. Free.

Email us your company name, MC number and how many loads you move a month. No setup fee. No contract. You pay for a load only if a location arrived for it.
